Changing your outgoing mail server (Is Port 25 blocked?)
Most email software use port 25 for SMTP to send out emails. However an ISP (Internet Service Provider) may block port 25 in order to prevent spamming by its customers.
If your ISP has blocked port 25, then you won't be able to send emails with your email client (such as Outlook).
What can I do if port 25 is blocked?
All of our customers should contact their ISP (Internet Service Provider) if Port 25 is blocked. In many instances they will let you use their outgoing SMTP servers. Depending on your service you may have an alternate choice.
- MediaTemple and Dreamhost customers may use the alternate port 587 to get around a blocked port 25. You only need to make this change in your email client. (Learn more)
- Deru customers may use the alternate port 26 to get around a blocked port 25. You only need to make this change in your email client. (Learn more)
